Tropic Thunder

This movie had some mixed reviews, but personally I thought it was very hilarious. It's a crafty parody on movies like Platoon, Apocalypse Now and Hamburger Hill. And the numerous inside jokes made me laugh out loud. The cast is also well chosen, with Jack Black suffering from cold turkey, Ben Stiller playing a strange mixture of Rambo and MacGyver, and Tom Cruise as a wonderful caricature of a movie mogul. But the greatest surprise is Robert Downey Jr., who delivers a wonderful performance as 5 times Acadamy Award winner Kirk Lazarus.

On top of that the movie criticizes actors in general, the Oscars in particular and Hollywood bigtime...quite funny (and controversial) for a Hollywood Production.

Make sure you arrive on time at the movie, as it starts with a hilarious collection of fake movie trailers, highlighting some of the most famous movies that these 'actors' play in.

And stay on after the movie for some really funny R 'n' B moves by Tom Cruise.

Quote from Tropic Thunder:

Kirk Lazarus: Everybody knows you never go full retard.
Tugg Speedman: What do you mean?
Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed...

Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying
